Eco News
In January we were visited by Bryony Butcher from Keep Wales Tidy, she was impressed by all our hard work across the school, we are really proud to have been awarded our 3rd Eco Schools Flag as a result of this visit.
We were also visited by Wayne Curtis and Harriet Hardy from Neath Port Talbot Council Environment Office. We talked about some of our recycling problems and agreed to be the first school to try recycling food waste. Mr Ryan is helping us to count the bins each week to see if we are throwing away less in the black bins.
Equipment has started arriving from our Morrisons voucher collection. Nursery and Reception have each planted an apple tree and Year One have two large planters for their outdoor classroom. We should have the rest of the order by the end of April.
We are currently working with Mr Jim Harle to become a Fairtrade school. It’s Fairtrade Fortnight and work has been going on across the school to promote this. We visited the Gnoll to meet up with Lee Trundle and some Neath RFC players to promote the use of Fairtrade sports balls. We were really lucky to be one of five schools to link up live to Uganda on Friday. We had a question and answer session with children from a school funded by the Fairtrade premium. We are also running a Fairtrade raffle to win a bag of Fairtrade products donated by the Neath Port Talbot Fairtrade Forum.
Don’t forget Friday 18th March is Red Nose Day, lots of merchadise is available from Sainsbury, Oxfam and TK Maxx. More information can be found by clicking on the link to the Red Nose Day website.
